Introduction to Green Buildings: Principles & Concepts

7 weeks 4-6 hours of work / week

Course Brief

This introductory course focuses on the evolution of green buildings, the concept of sustainability in buildings, and the principles, practices, and components that distinguish sustainable buildings from traditional buildings. As a result of growth in the industry, appraisers are being asked more often to appraise green buildings. But what is significant about these buildings, and how do they differ from conventional buildings? The answers to these questions form the basis of this course. The course covers the principles of green building, an overview of green building certification programs, how reporting appraisals of green buildings differ from conventional buildings, how to apply highest and best use analysis to green building, and finally, how to use the three approaches to value in a green building appraisal. This course is geared toward both general and residential appraisers.
